Lake Forest downs Vikings

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lisa Nassin scored 24 points to lead the Lake Forest women's basketball team to a 95-79 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University at Alexander Gymnasium on Saturday.

Laura Aerts scored a career-high 28 points to pace Lawrence (2-9, 0-5 MWC) and broke a school record in the process. Aerts was 12-for-12 from the free-throw line breaking the mark for free-throw percentage in a game. Ten players previously held the mark at 8-for-8.

Lawrence shot 92.9 percent from the line for the game, hitting 26 of 28.

Kanesha Walker tied her career high with 14 points, and Katie Condon and Cathy Kaye added 11 points apiece.

Kate Grunauer added 16 points for Lake Forest (10-3, 6-0), and Claire Schmidt had 14.

The Foresters, who shot 56.9 percent from the floor for the game, got off to a hot start and led by double figures at 18-8 with 13:09 left in the first half. Lake Forest would lead by as many as 18 points in the first half and were up 47-31 at the break.

Lake Forest went on a 9-0 run early in the second half to take a 23-point lead at 56-33 on Emily Weber's layup with 17:14 left in the contest.

Lawrence battled back and went on a 17-7 run, with Aerts scoring five points in that stretch and Condon adding four. Kaye capped the outburst with a 3-pointer to trim the margin to 63-50 with 11:55 remaining.

That's as close as Lawrence would get as Lake Forest built the lead to as much as 22 points.

Lawrence returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Carroll University.
