APPLETON, Wis. -- The Illinois College women's basketball team pulled away in the first half and kept Lawrence University at arm's length throughout the second half to post a 75-61 Midwest Conference victory Friday at Alexander Gymnasium.
Rachel Macon scored 17 points to pace Illinois College (11-7, 6-5 MWC). Candy Norville added 15 points, and Casey Johnson had 12 points and a game-high seven rebounds.
Laura Aerts scored 16 points to lead Lawrence (2-16, 0-12). Kanesha Walker added 10 points and Katie Condon had nine. Sam Nimmer pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.
The Lady Blues led 18-9 midway through the first half and went on 19-9 run to lead 37-17 with 1:51 left. Illinois College led 37-22 at the break.
Lawrence trimmed the lead to 12 within the first 34 seconds of the second half, but the Vikings had trouble drawing closer. Illinois College's lead hovered between 12 and 15 points for much of the second half.
The Vikings closed to 63-53 with 4:28 left, but the Lady Blues scored the game's next six points. Lawrence got no closer than 71-61 on Annie Kaiser's 3-pointer with 1:00 left.
Lawrence returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Knox College.
