WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Carroll University women's basketball team pulled out to a big early lead and went on to an 89-58 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Tuesday night.
Cathy Kaye had a huge game for the Vikings (2-10, 0-6 MWC). The freshman guard poured in a career-high 26 points and hit 11 of 14 shots from the floor and went 4-for-5 from the foul line.
Janelle Groer led Carroll (8-6, 3-4) led Carroll with 19 points and was one of four Pioneers in double figures. Karen Hoewisch added 16 points for Carroll.
The Pioneers led 24-11 with just under 11 minutes left in the first half, but Lawrence would trim the lead to 28-19 on Kaye's layup with 7:45 left. Carroll then went on a 21-6 run to take a 49-25 lead with 1:23 left in the opening half.
Carroll would lead by as many as 35 points in the second half.
The Vikings return to action Friday when they travel to Grinnell College.
