Beloit surges past Vikings

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Beloit College women's basketball team pulled away from Lawrence University late in the first half Tuesday night at Alexander Gymnasium and didn't look back in a 65-44 Midwest Conference victory over the Vikings.

Faith Jones scored 20 points and Amanda Moore added a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds for Beloit (5-7, 3-2 MWC). Cathy Kaye scored 11 points to pace Lawrence (2-7, 0-3), which saw its two-game win streak snapped.

Lawrence scored six consecutive points, two apiece by Katie Van Es, Laura Aerts and Nakita Chadwick, to take an 18-17 lead with 5:26 left in the first half. Beloit countered by going on a 14-3 to finish the first half and take a 32-21 lead at the break.

Lawrence went cold down the stretch in the first half, hitting only 1 of 9 shots from the field over the final 4:38 of the opening 20 minutes. Beloit went 6-for-6 from the field during the same stretch.

Beloit then went on a 21-2 run in the second half to take its biggest lead of the game at 63-29. Lawrence never got closer than 21 points the rest of the way.

The Vikings return to action on Friday when they host Monmouth College.
