FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- The Marian University women's basketball team held off Lawrence University Tuesday night and posted a 57-49 nonconference victory at Sadoff Gymnasium.
Stephanie Bouchard paced Marian (1-2) with 17 points, and Ashley Mueller grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds for the Sabres. Katie Van Es scored a career-high 16 points to pace Lawrence (0-4).
The game was a see-saw contest that featured eight ties and eight lead changes.
Lawrence led 41-37 with 8:03 left before the Sabres rattled off a 14-4 run to take a 51-45 lead with 2:49 remaining.
Laura Aerts and Sam Nimmer countered with layups for the Vikings and Lawrence trailed 51-49 with 1:31 left. The Vikings had a chance to tie but Nimmer's jumper missed, and Lawrence was forced to foul.
The Sabres went 6-for-6 from the foul line over the final 34 seconds to seal the win.
Both teams had rough shooting nights from long distance. Lawrence hit 1 of 14 from beyond the 3-point line, and Marian was 2 of 18.
Lawrence is back in action on Dec. 5 when it hosts Knox College.
