ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Elmhurst College women's basketball team pulled away midway through the second half and went on to a 76-65 nonconference victory Tuesday over Lawrence University at the RDV Sportsplex D3 Classic.
Lawrence's Erin Henzi scored a career-high 27 points, and Elmhurst's Lyndsie Long had 27 for the Bluejays.
Henzi, who was named to the all-tournament team, hit 10 of 18 shots from the floor, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range. She also handed out a game-high six assists and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Laura Aerts added 16 points for the Vikings.
For the second straight night, the Vikings (0-8) fell behind by double digits to start the game. Elmhurst (6-4) scored the game's first 11 points, but the Vikings quickly recovered.
Lawrence went on a 13-2 run, capped by Henzi's 3-pointer, to tie the game at 13-13 with 13:54 left in the first half. The game remained tight throughout the first half, and the Bluejays led 39-35 at the break.
A Henzi 3-pointer tied the game at 46-46, but Elmhust scored the next 10 points to grab a 56-46 edge with 11:31 left. Lawrence battled back and cut the lead to 58-54 on Katie Condon's 3-pointer with 8:20 remaining.
That is as close as Lawrence would get, as the Bluejays gradually built the lead back to double digits. Elmhurst then hit 5 of 8 free throws in the final 1:40 to preserve the win.
Lawrence returns to action on Jan. 5 when it hosts 13th-ranked UW-Stevens Point.
