ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Carthage College women's basketball team scored the game's first 11 points and never looked back en route to a 66-40 nonconference victory over Lawrence University on Monday at the RDV Sportsplex D3 Classic.
Erin Henzi led Lawrence (0-7) and all scorers with 13 points. Lisa Gartelos came off the bench to pace Carthage (7-2) with 12 points. Katie Jarger added 11 points for the Lady Reds.
Carthage jumped out to a double-digit advantage just 4:23 into the contest, and Lawrence didn't get its first points until Henzi hit a pair of free throws 5:33 into the game.
Lawrence battled back to cut the lead to 20-14 on Katie Van Es' jumper with 7:10 left in the first half, but Carthage scored the game's next eight points. The Lady Reds led by 14 at the half.
Lawrence never got closer than 14 points in the second half, and Carthage led by as many as 28 in the final minute.
The Vikings return to action on Tuesday when they face Elmhurst College.
