Beloit blows by Lawrence

BELOIT, Wis. -- The Beloit College women's basketball team raced out to a double-digit lead in the first eight minutes and rolled to a 74-38 Midwest Conference win over Lawrence University Tuesday at Flood Arena.

Amanda Moore came off the bench to lead Beloit (8-4, 5-0 MWC) with 16 points. Sarah Stariha and Diana Sopkowicz added 10 points apiece for the Bucs.

Laura Aerts paced Lawrence (0-11, 0-4) with 14 points. Erin Henzi added nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Sopkowicz's layup with 11:52 left in the first half capped a 7-0 Beloit run and gave the Bucs a 17-6 lead.

Lawrence trimmed the lead back to nine points on several occasions, but Beloit scored the final six points of the first half and led 36-21 at the break.

Beloit then scored the first eight points of the second half to go up 44-21. Mara Hagopian hit a 3-pointer for Lawrence to stop the run, but the Vikings would get no closer.

Beloit would lead by as many as 40 points.

Turnovers again plagued the Vikings, as Lawrence turned the ball over 33 times.
