DE PERE, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's basketball team rallied from a nine-point second-half deficit and took the lead before St. Norbert College recovered for a 48-45 Midwest Conference victory Wednesday at Schuldes Sports Center.
Caresse Reiland posted her sixth double-double of the season with 15 points and 17 rebounds for Lawrence (4-12, 1-8 MWC). Morgan Strasser scored 12 points to pace three St. Norbert (13-4, 9-1) players in double figures.
The Vikings trailed 25-16 at the half before Lawrence went on a 13-0 run early in the second half. The Vikings trailed 28-21 when Reiland and Jenny Stoner hit back-to-back layups. Freshman Annie Kaiser then had the game's next two baskets to give Lawrence a 29-28 lead with 11:15 remaining.
Carrie Van Groll's fastbreak layup put Lawrence up 31-28, and Kaiser's 3-pointer with 10:05 left gave Lawrence its biggest lead of the game at 34-28. St. Norbert finally stopped the bleeding when Linsey Propson's layup cut the margin to 34-30 and broke a scoreless streak of 6:32.
St. Norbert battled back to lead 44-39 with four minutes left, but back-to-back layups from Reiland and another by Laura Aerts put the Vikings ahead 45-44 with 2:06 left.
The Green Knights took the lead back for good at 46-45 on Denise Heuser's layup with 42 seconds left. The Vikings had a chance to win it in the final seconds, but Erin Henzi's 3-pointer with four seconds left was off the mark.
Lawrence returns to action Saturday when it hosts Carroll College.
