APPLETON, Wis. -- The No. 23 Lake Forest College women's basketball team pulled away over the final 10 minutes and posted a 71-60 Midwest Conference victory at Lawrence University on Saturday.
The Vikings got another stellar game from sophomore forward Caresse Reiland, who poured in 25 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. She also blocked five shots, had three steals, and handed out a pair of assists. Nicole Baich had a double-double for the Foresters (16-3, 10-2 MWC) with 19 points and 10 rebounds in only 22 minutes.
Lawrence (4-15, 1-11) cut Lake Forest's lead to five early in the second half after consecutive jumpers by Reiland. The Foresters pumped the lead back to 11 points, but Jenny Stoner, who finished with nine points and a game-high seven assists, hit a 3-pointer for the Vikings. Reiland followed with a layup to trim the lead to 42-36.
After Amanda Johnson hit a 3-pointer for Lake Forest, Lawrence got a jumper from Stoner and a pair of free throws from Laura Aerts to cut the margin to 45-40 with 12:01 remaining. That is as close as the Vikings would get.
The Foresters went on a 7-0 run to grab a 52-40 edge, and Lawrence wouldn't get closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
Lawrence returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Ripon College.
