APPLETON, Wis. -- Forwards Kelly Mulcahy and Caresse Reiland combined for 38 points to lead the Lawrence University women's basketball team to a 63-52 Midwest Conference win over Knox College Saturday at Alexander Gymnasium.
Mulcahy poured in a game-high 22 points and pulled down six rebounds. Reiland picked up her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Andie Allison scored 15 points to pace Knox (3-10, 1-5 MWC).
Lawrence (4-9, 1-5), which snapped a six-game losing streak, led by as many as eight points in the first half before the Prairie Fire trimmed the margin to 18-14 with 5:09 left. The Vikings went on an 11-3 run over the final 4:47 of the first half to build a 29-17 lead at the break.
The Vikings built their biggest lead of the game on Mulcahy's layup with 17:34 left to go up 35-17. Lawrence still led 50-33 with 7:12 left when the Prairie Fire scored the game's next 10 points.
Carrie Van Groll, who finished with 12 points, nine rebounds, five steals, and four assists, stemmed the tide for Lawrence with her fastbreak layup. Mulcahy then scored four consecutive points as the Vikings went on a 10-0 run of their own to go up 60-43 and seal the victory.
Lawrence returns to action next Friday when it travels to Illinois College.
