APPLETON, Wis. -- Hannah Wolf poured in 38 points to lead the Grinnell College women's basketball team to a 76-63 victory at Lawrence University on Friday night.
Wolf hit 14 of 27 shots from the floor, including 6 of 13 from beyond the arc, to pace the Pioneers (3-9, 1-4 MWC). She also pulled down 10 rebounds. Kelly Mulcahy posted a double-double for Lawrence (3-9, 0-5) with 23 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.
Grinnell took control of the game midway through the second half. Mulcahy's layup forced the eighth tie of the game at 43-43, but the Pioneers scored the next eight points to grab a 51-43 edge with 11:10 remaining.
The Pioneers built that lead to 15 at 64-49 before Lawrence rallied. Mulcahy, who also had a game-high six steals, scored eight consecutive points and Carrie Van Groll capped a 10-0 run by the Vikings with a layup to cut the lead to 64-59 with 3:13 left. Van Groll finished with 16 points and six rebounds.
Grinnell came right back to score the game's next eight points, which included a key 3-pointer by Wolf, to take a 72-59 lead and seal the win.
Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Knox College.
