NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Michelle Walsh's debut as the Lawrence University women's basketball coach was a big success, as the Vikings defeated Clarkson University 73-45 in a nonconference game Friday.
The game was part of the North Central (Ill.) College Tournament and was the first for Walsh, who took over the Vikings' head coach in July. The Vikings advance to Saturday's 6:00 p.m. championship game against either North Central or Webster University.
Carrie Van Groll led four Vikings in double figures with 16 points. The senior guard also grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out six assists.
Kelly Mulcahy chipped in with 12 points, Jenny Stoner added 11, and Caresse Reiland had 10.
All 11 players saw action for the Vikings and all 11 players scored.
Lawrence has now won three of its last four season openers.
