APPLETON, Wis. -- The Beloit College women's basketball team used a big scoring run early in the second half to pull away for a 77-56 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University Saturday at Alexander Gymnasium.
Katie McCool scored 24 points and Christine Brown had 20 to pace Beloit (13-9, 9-6 MWC). Caresse Reiland scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Lawrence (4-17, 1-13). Laura Aerts added 13 points and Carrie Van Groll had 10 for the Vikings.
The game was tight throughout the first half and the opening minutes of the second half. Van Groll's layup with 16:12 left cut Beloit's lead to 37-32, but that's when the Bucs took over.
Beloit went on a 15-2 run to take a 52-34 lead with 11:52 left. Brown scored seven points during that stretch, and Angie Meehan hit a pair of 3-pointers for the Bucs.
Beloit would go on to lead by as many as 23 points, and Lawrence never got closer than 16 points down the stretch.
Lawrence wraps up the home portion of its season schedule when it hosts St. Norbert College on Wednesday.
