Second-half rally lifts Beloit past Lawrence

BELOIT, Wis. -- The Beloit College women's basketball team rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit to down Lawrence University 72-60 Tuesday night in a Midwest Conference game at Flood Arena.

Caresse Reiland paced Lawrence (3-8, 0-4 MWC) with a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds. Carrie Van Groll and Erin Henzi added eight points apiece. Christine Brown had a double-double for Beloit (6-5, 3-2) with 25 points and 13 rebounds, and Amanda Moore came off the bench to score 23 points.

Reiland helped Lawrence build its lead early in the second half. The sophomore forward from Wauwatosa, Wis., scored the Vikings' first 10 points after the break. She had 12 points and Van Groll added the other four in a 16-8 run that gave Lawrence a 47-37 advantage with 14:41 remaining.

The Bucs immediately countered with nine consecutive points to trim the margin back to 47-46 with 10:46 left. Reiland then hit a jumper for Lawrence, but the Bucs kept on rolling.

Beloit ended up turning that 10-point deficit into a 10-point lead with a 24-4 run that consumed nearly nine minutes on the clock. When the dust cleared, the Bucs led 61-51 with 5:55 left. Lawrence would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.

The Vikings, who have now dropped five straight, return home this weekend to face Grinnell College on Friday and Knox College on Saturday.
