at Lawrence University

Our camp is a technique intensive camp providing an opportunity for swimmers to refine their strokes, set up building blocks for mental toughness, engage in top-level teambuilding exercises and learn what it takes to be a champion.  The most important feature of camp is to just have a good time and learn something new.

What makes this a great camp?

Collegiate Coaching

Kurt Kirner (Lawrence University), Bob Pearson (Macalester College), Alec Webster (Lake Forest College) and/or Keith Crawford (Monmouth College) head up a staff with an 8 to 1 swimmer/counselor ratio.  We employ the latest in swimming technique. Come learn from the best!

Underwater Videotaping

All of our videotaping has an audio track with a personal critiqued from Coach Kirner as well as a one-to-one feedback session with their camp counselor.  Additionally, the camper can purchase a video of the proper technique and drills used in camp.

Mental Toughness Training

One of the most well-received features of camp is the daily mental toughness sessions offered.  These motivational talks and exercises helps the athlete deal with the pressures of competing.  Exercises include relaxation, imagery and championship-building self talk.

Comprehensive Team Activities

The underlying theme of camp is to build team leaders and make campers better teamplayers on their own teams.  Activities such as water polo, dryland games, cognitive activities and teambuilding sessions all are presented with the idea of building the “total” athlete.

Critical Programming Exercises

Each year we try to present different topics critical to the athlete’s success.  This year in addition to the topics expressed above we will be offering short informational and interactive workshops on strength training and nutrition.  For goal-setting we will be presenting the new Swimpact software.  Nutritional topics will include the most current information on what you need to eat to succeed.
