Each
year at the end of the season we have our swim team awards banquet towards
the end of April. Prior to the banquet, we show the team’s year end video
highlighting the team’s success and fun during the season. Many of the
snapshots are contributed by the athletes from their collection and other
pieces are collected from video taken at meets during the season. Much of
it is quite humorous and provides great opportunities for quotes. The
pictures throughout each page of this newsletter are taken directly from the
video including the snapshots of the award winners on this page.
The banquet itself was held at the prestigious Radisson Paper Valley Hotel
and was attended by coaches, swimmers and parents. The awards and
awardwinners highlighted in the surrounding pictures were voted on by their
teammates. Besides these awards, I presented the Coach’s Award of Merit,
chosen by me, to the two athletes who best display the outstanding traits
that make our team a success. I also presented two Honorary Coach’s Award
of Merits to two non-athlete supporters who graciously gave of their time
and efforts to help us succeed. Honoraries were awarded to Laura Houser, an
injured swimmer since her freshman year who stuck by us as a deck coach and
meet assistant; and Brenna Kunkel, an assistant who took a weeks vacation
out of her own time to help escort us around Florida. Also awarded at the
banquet were the traditional “silly” awards voted on by the swimmer and
presented to the winners by the captains, awards such as, Most Likely to
Coach, Best Couple, Best Deck Wardrobe and Most Likely Not to get Back in
the Water.
