Lisa Cornelius (closest lane) was voted Women's Most Improved as she picked up 100 yard backstroke as a new event this season.

Each year in the spring we have our swim team awards banquet.  As a lead-up to the ceremony, the team enjoys some great memories built during the season in the team’s year end video.  This year's production used a little over 1000 pictures to show the fun and success of our various events and trips.  Many of the snapshots are contributed by the athletes from their collection and other pieces are collected from video footage taken at meets during the season.  Additionally, professional photographers Chris Lading and Tim Mayer contributed a number of great images.  Much of images are quite humorous and provides great opportunities for quotes.  The pictures throughout each page of this newsletter are taken directly from the video including the snapshots of the award winners on this page.

The banquet itself was held at the prestigious Radisson Paper Valley Hotel and was attended by coaches, swimmers and parents.  The awards and award-winners highlighted here were voted on by their teammates.  Besides these awards, I presented the Coach’s Award of Merit, chosen by me, to the two athletes who best display the outstanding traits that make our team a success.  I also presented an Honorary Coach’s Award of Merit to a non-athlete supporter who graciously gave of their time, resources and efforts to help us succeed.  This years' honorary was awarded to James J. Hustace, for his Hawaiian treats and donation in the name of the swim team. Mr Hustace is the father of James E. Hustace, freshman swimmer for the Vikings.   Also awarded at the banquet were the traditional “silly” awards voted on by the swimmer and presented to the winners by the captains, awards such as, Most Likely to Coach, Best Couple, Best Deck Wardrobe and Most Likely Not to get Back in the Water were presented.

Garnering Most Dedicated swimmer awards for the second straight year were Chris Sarasin (left) and Caitlin Monnens (middle) enjoying the conference meet with teammate James E. Hustace (son of honorary Coach's Award of Merit winner).

Jodie Primus (left) Women's Most Valuable talks with teammates before the finals at MWCs.  Primus scored her second consecutive conference title later in the evening in the 100 yard breaststroke.

Adam Kolb ("S" on chest) was chosen Men's Most Valuable for his outstanding leadership and conference title performance in the 500 yard freestyle.  Here Kolb lines up behind the blocks with teammates for a relay.

Voted Men's Most Improved  for his third time in four years, Paul Schook (middle) is shown training in the distance lane with teammates Mara Sarabia and Adam Kolb.  Schook was the conference champ in the 1650 for the Vikings this season.
