I am currently finishing off the recruit year for the
2004 season. Within the next month, all of the swimmers I have spent
recruiting this past year will be graduating and looking forward to the next
step of their life—higher education and swimming at the intercollegiate
level. It has been a successful year as about 15 new student athletes will
be matriculating here to Lawrence and our program in the Fall of 2004. Okay
so enough about them, my attention is now turning to you – next year’s
seniors and 2005 college-bound athletes. Additionally, I will be making
initial contacts with the 2006 pool of athletes.
This is the way the recruiting picture looks from my
perspective—the Lawrence Swimming Way. I have currently, to date, received
close to 500 questionaires and inquiries about our swim program. I have
already initiated phone calls and emails to many who have requested a
contact from me and plan to call as many prospective recruits over the next
few months as I can. Consequently, if you have not already been contacted
by me but would like to talk with me, please email me with your questions
and requests. I promise I will move you to the front of the line.
Other ways to find out about our great university and
swim program are to review the many great postal mailings, e-mailings and
web site links. I intend on making contact with you all somehow, someway
over the summer. Lastly, a great way to discover Lawrence firsthand is with
a visit. See
Summer Visit Days on the Directory of Related Links page on the side
(just click on it). If you are unable to make one of these days and would
like to set-up a personal meeting during the summer just e-mail me in
advance and I can tell you if I am going to be on campus then call
Admissions at 1-800-227-0982 to formally set up the visit.
What you can expect on your visit? Typically, I speak
to prospective recruits for around an hour explaining all the things
involved with being a part of our program and answering any questions.
Through the contact with the admissions office you will receive a tour of
campus and talk with an admissions counselor. While on campus, don’t forget
to browse our team handbook as it has many answers to questions you will
forget to ask. You can pick up a copy to view while on campus at the Rec
Center front desk (building the pool is located). Since Lawrence does not
host classes during the summer you would need to schedule a trip during the
academic year to attend an actual class. But there will be students for you
to talk with and residence hall rooms to view during your trip.
So that’s how we will “roll out that red carpet” for
you over the summer!
