How much time do you spend "physically" training your body for the big meet at the end of your season? Likewise, how much time do you spend "mentally" preparing your mind for that same big meet? These are great questions to ask yourself. Often, we find that swimmers are “pumped” and ready to go when it comes to their physical conditioning and preparation, yet as the meet approaches they “crash” or “choke”, because they have failed to train their mind to that same level. These workshops are designed to work on some simple strategies to help control their environment and empower them to succeed when the pressure’s on. Coach Kirner leads you through a series of fun and interactive clinics to prepare you for your dual meet season and subsequent championships . Each session will be an individual clinic (so if you miss one you won’t be left out), however they all fit into an overall plan to build the mentally tough athlete. The first 25 paid registrants will receive a free underwater videotape analysis and professional critique of their strokes by Coach Kirner (additional $40 value).

. We will set the foundation with a simple three-step process revolving around the skills and drills on our Mental Toughness Skills and Drills CD to help you avoid this pattern of self-destructing. The first step will be to learn relaxation exercises. This sets the foundation for reducing anxiety, creating an internal base for focus and concentration, and physiologically keeps responses to stress in check. The second step, positive affirmation statements, feeds your mind reinforcement by directing all your thoughts towards positive and constructive focal points. Lastly, mental practice stimulates the brain-to-muscle connection and creates “a mental zone” where an athlete can eliminate destructive thoughts and distractions, and replace them with factors that are within their control. Additionally we will present other timely topics such as peak performance in your mind, turning failure into success and how to make a remarkably positive impact on your own team.
