APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University softball team dropped a pair of Midwest Conference games to Ripon College on Wednesday, with the Red Hawks winning the opener 3-2 in eight innings and taking the nightcap 8-0 in six innings.
The games, originally scheduled to be played at Ripon, were moved to Whiting Field due to wet field conditions.
Ripon (16-12, 10-1 MWC) got a lead-off, walk-off homer from catcher Alli Jensen in the bottom of the eighth to win the first game.
Lawrence (8-19, 3-8) led 1-0 in the fourth on Emily Perish's run-scoring single, but the Red Hawks tied it in the bottom of the innings on Natalie Geenan's lead-off homer.
The Vikings make it 2-1 in the fifth when Carli Gurholt belted a run-scoring single. Ripon again tied it in the bottom half of the inning when Abby Richeson's fly ball went off the glove of leftfielder Ellen French, and Richeson raced all the way around to score.
Andrea Knorr went the distance, allowing five hits, to pick up the win. Meredith Foshag took the loss despite allowing only four hits.
In the nightcap, both starting pitchers put zeros up on the board for the first 5 1/2 innings.
Ripon then exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to win it. Jensen hit a two-run homer in the inning and the other six runs were unearned due to three Lawrence errors.
Brittnee Peotter allowed four hits over six innings to pick up the win. Emily Perish took the loss.
Lawrence wraps up the home portion of its schedule when it hosts Carroll University at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
