Lawrence drops pair to St. Norbert

APPLETON, Wis. -- The St. Norbert College softball team used one big inning in each game of Tuesday's Midwest Conference doubleheader to take both games at Lawrence University's Whiting Field.

The Green Knights scored five times in the third inning of game one and went on to a 9-6 victory, and St. Norbert broke open a close game by scoring six times in the sixth in game two en route to an 8-0 win.

Carli Gurholt hit her eighth homer of the season for Lawrence (6-12, 1-3 MWC) in the opener to break the school season record of seven held by teammate Alex Goodson. Goodson blasted a three-run homer for the Vikings in the first game.

Kayla Krueger allowed seven hits in seven innings to win the opener for St. Norbert (7-11, 5-1). Emily Perish took the loss for Lawrence.

Collette Ullmer went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs in the first game for the Green Knights. Gurholt went 2-for-3 and Goodson drove in three runs for the Vikings.

St. Norbert was clinging to a 2-0 lead in the second game when the Green Knights exploded for six runs in the sixth. St. Norbert had seven hits in the inning, including a two-run triple by Ullmer.

Kristin Zimmerman and Brieanne Oehlke both had three hits in the nightcap for St. Norbert.

Jessica Kropp allowed only three hits in five innings to pick up the win. Meredith Foshag took the loss for the Vikings.
