BELOIT, Wis. -- Emily Perish fired a three-hit shutout in the opener of a Midwest Conference doubleheader on Saturday to lead the Lawrence University softball team to a split with Beloit College.
Lawrence won the opener 8-0 and Beloit came back to take the nightcap 3-0.
Perish struck out three and walked two to record her first collegiate shutout.
The Vikings jumped on Beloit starter Katy Sandt early, scoring four times in the first inning. Lawrence didn't have a hit in the inning but took advantage of four walks, two hit batsman, an error, and a wild pitch.
Lawrence (5-9, 1-1 MWC) then added single runs in each of the next four innings to seal the victory. No one had more than one hit for the Vikings in the opener, but Meredith Foshag and Lara Wasserman each collected a pair of runs batted in.
Sandt, who pitched only 1.1 innings in the opener, rebounded to go the distance in the nightcap. She struck out 11 and walked only two while allowing three hits.
Sarah Stariha went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the nightcap to pace Beloit (5-13, 1-1).
