Vikings fall to Union, Manchester to wrap up trip to Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Lawrence University softball team ended its 10-game spring break trip to Florida with a 5-2 loss to Union (N.Y.) College and a 3-0 loss to Manchester College on Thursday.

Carli Gurholt and Alex Goodson both had two hits against Union. Both players had run-scoring singles in the third to give Lawrence (2-8) a 2-1 lead.

Union responded with four runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good and close out the scoring. The big blow in the inning was Megan Kaknis' two-run triple.

Tiffany Ippoliti went the distance, allowing five hits, to pick up the win for Union.

Erica Bush went the distance and scattered six hits for Manchester to post the shutout. She walked one and struck out one.

Gurholt went 2-for-3 to pace the Vikings.

Amy Hommema's two-run single highlighted a three-run third inning for Manchester.

Emily Perish allowed all three runs, all unearned, and took the loss.
