TUCSON, Ariz. -- Gustavus Adolphus College broke open a close game by scoring in the final three innings on Monday to post a 9-1, six-inning nonconference victory over Lawrence University.
Lawrence (3-2) tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second when Alex Goodson singled and later scored on Hillary Cheever's single.
Gustavus came right back to score two times in the bottom of the third to grab a 3-1 lead. The Gusties then added another run in the fourth, three more in the fifth, and ended the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Julie Mahre went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBIs, and Rachael Click went 2-for-2 with four RBI to lead Gustavus.
Catherine Marinac went the distance and took the loss for Lawrence. Callie Nelson allowed five hits over six innings, struck out seven and didn't walk a batter to earn the victory.
