TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Lawrence University softball team ran its season-opening win streak to three games with a 22-3 pasting of St. Joseph's (N.Y.) College on Sunday.
Lawrence (3-0) pounded out 13 hits and took advantage of 15 St. Joe's walks en route to the rout. Meredith Foshag picked up the win in the five-inning contest by allowing two hits and no runs.
Carli Guholt and Foshag paced the Lawrence attack by picking up three hits and RBIs apiece. Carrie Van Groll and Megan Butterbrodt also drove in three runs apiece for Lawrence.
The Vikings led 1-0 after the first inning and then exploded for 13 runs in the second. The Vikings had seven hits in the second, with Van Groll, Gurholt, Foshag, Reichel, and Ilsa Tone all picking up run-scoring singles.
Lawrence scored eight more times in the fourth, with Butterbrodt and Foshag both hammering two-run singles.
Foshag allowed only two singles in the second inning. Alex Goodson gave up three runs in the fifth without a St. Joe's hit before Foshag came back to the mound and closed out the Bears.
