Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

What is a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee?

SAAC is made up of student-athlete representatives. The committee is a vehicle to promote communication between the athletic administration and student-athletes.

  • Purposes
  • A. Assist in evaluation of the Men's and Women's Athletic Programs and make recommendations to Administration for the improvement of the student-athlete academic, athletic, and social experiences

    B. To provide the student-athlete population with an opportunity to more effectively communicate with the LU Athletic Department Administration and provide suggestions on programs designed to serve their needs

    C. Encourage unity, common purpose, and camaraderie between and among all athletes in the program

    D. To actively encourage more involvement of the student-athletes in campus and community projects

    E. To design and implement programs which will encourage academic achievement, health promotion, social responsibility, and general awareness

  • Membership
  • A. The membership shall be composed of one voting member and one alternate from each varsity team, with the addition of reps from sports medicine, and sports information

    B. Other community members with an active interest in varsity sports may attend meetings but cannot be recognized as voting members

    C. Each member will serve as a liaison between the Board and their individual team

    D. Each member shall serve on at least one subcommittee

  • Qualifications
  • Minimum requirements for LU-SAAC membership are as follows:

    A. Academic eligibility during appointment (LU Athletic Department standards: 2.0GPA)

    B. Consistency with LU-SAAC purposes

    C. Attendance at each monthly meeting (by member or alternate)

  • Standing Committee
  • A. Committee chairpersons shall be elected by LU-SACC members

    B. Membership on committees is open to all academically eligible student-athletes

    C. The four standing committees are:

    a. Student-Athlete Welfare

    b. Education and Outreach

    c. Community Outreach

    d. Facility and Event

  • Executive Committee
  • The LU-SAAC Executive Committee shall consist of an elected chair, vice chair, and secretary, as well as chairs of the four standing committees, and an Athletic Department Staff Member.
