Jennifer Jacobsen is Lawrence University's new head track and field coach, as she assumed the reins of the program in the summer of 2006.
Jacobsen, a former standout cross country and track athlete at Grinnell College, also serves as the head coach of Lawrence's men's and women's cross country teams.
Jacobsen has served as the head coach for cross country and track and field at a pair of NCAA Division III institutions. She worked at Franklin and Marshall College in Pennsylvania for three years and also worked for three years at Methodist College in North Carolina. In her time as a collegiate head coach, Jacobsen saw her teams break 65 school records and win 14 individual conference championships. She also coached 11 national qualifiers, three All-Americans, and three Academic All-Americans.
A 1995 graduate of Grinnell, Jacobsen earned a bachelor's degree in history with a minor in Russian and Eastern European studies. She won 12 letters in cross country and track and served as captain of both squads as a junior and senior. Jacobsen was part of four conference championship teams in cross country. She has a Master of Arts degree in sport psychology and cultural studies of sport from the University of Iowa.
Jacobsen is certified through Level II by USA Track and Field and is a certified strength and conditioning coach by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
A native of the Chicago area, Jacobsen was a star athlete at Conant High School. She won four letters in track and three more in cross country. A two-time state qualifier in the 3,200-meter relay in track, her team also took second place at the Class AA state cross country meet in 1989.
