MATCH RESULTS
Midwest Conference Championships (May 5-6, 2001)
The No. 1 doubles team of Jai Arora and Tom Lipari reached the semifinals before falling to Spencer Piston and Felipe Bautista of Grinnell. Arora and Lipari opened play with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Illinois College. The No. 2 doubles team of Dave Carter and Dan Putterman captured the consolation championship. After falling to a team from Ripon in the championship quarterfinals, Carter and Putterman beat a Lake Forest duo 10-5 in the consolation semifinals and took the consolation championship with a 10-8 win over Illinois College.
Arora reached the semifinals at No. 1 singles before losing to Bautista 6-4, 6-2. Arora trounced St. Norbert's Dan Schramka 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. At No. 2 singles, Lipari also fell in the semifinals. Beloit's Hiroshi Yamaguchi beat Lipari 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.
Three other Lawrence players did reach the consolation finals. At No. 4 singles, Lake Forest's Luke Figora beat Putterman 10-6 in the consolation final. In the consolation final at No. 5, Beloit's Shinya Kumamaru topped Nate Schreiber 10-6. At No. 6, Beau Llewellyn of Lake Forest beat Dan Giles 10-5 in the consolation final.
