APPLETON, Wis. -- The University of Puget Sound got 18 points from reserve guard Ryan DeLong en route to a 92-86 victory over Augustana College in a NCAA Division III Tournament Sweet 16 game Friday night at Alexander Gymnasium.
Puget Sound (23-4) advances to face Illinois Wesleyan University in the Elite 8 Saturday night. Wesleyan beat Lawrence University 71-68 in the other Sweet 16 game on Friday.
Zack McVey added 15 points for the Loggers, and Antwan Williams had 12 and Chase Curtiss had 10. Rick Harrigan paced Augustana (23-6) with 21 points.
Puget Sound trailed by 10 points in the first half but rallied to take a 46-40 lead into the locker room. The Loggers built that lead to 73-60 with 9:00 left, but Augustana battled back.
The Vikings got layups from Nate Swetalla and Pat Brusveen to cut the lead to 83-77 with 54 seconds left. The Loggers then hit 9 of 12 free throws in the final 47 seconds to seal the win.
