ODESSA, Fla. -- Erik Borresen had his first career double-double to lead the Lawrence University men's basketball team to a 72-58 nonconference win over Trinity (Fla.) College Thursday night at the Mack Center.
Borresen scored 15 points and added a team-high 10 rebounds to pace Lawrence (3-5). John Dekker led the Vikings with 19 points and nine rebounds and was one of four Lawrence players to score in double figures.
Dustin Lee came off the bench to score 10 points and grab nine rebounds, and Tyler Crisman added 10 points.
Senior point guard Jamie DeMatthew handed out a career-high nine assists to go along with six points and five rebounds. Jon Mays added eight points on 4-for-5 shooting from the floor.
The Vikings jumped out to a big early lead and were up 19-6 before Trinity (3-9) came storming back. Trinity, a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association, went on a 17-8 run to cut the lead to 27-23 at the break.
Behind the shooting of Dekker, who hit four 3-pointers after the break, the Vikings would lead by as many as 16 points midway through the second half.
The Tigers cut the lead to 57-51 with less than three minutes left, but Lawrence sealed the victory at the foul line. DeMatthew was 6-for-6 from the stripe, and Crisman was 5-for-5 down the stretch for Lawrence.
Lawrence returns to action on Friday when it travels to Florida College.
