Lawrence routs Florida College to complete Sunshine State sweep

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. -- John Dekker poured in 23 points to lead the Lawrence University men's basketball team to a 96-52 nonconference rout at Florida College on Friday night.

Dekker, who also grabbed nine rebounds, was one of five Vikings (4-5) to score in double figures. Dustin Lee came off the bench to score 15 points, grab six rebounds and record three steals.

Tyler Crisman added 15 points and grabbed four rebounds for Lawrence, which downed Trinity (Fla.) College on Thursday. Center Erik Borresen chipped in with 12 points, including a two-handed jam to finish a fastbreak, and six rebounds.

Freshman forward Conor Klusendorf scored a career-high 10 points, and senior guard Yui Ueno had a career-best eight points.

Jordan Mitchell scored 15 points to pace Florida College (6-7).

The 44-point win was Lawrence's biggest margin of victory since 53-point (92-39) drubbing of Goucher College on Dec. 29, 2005.

The Vikings began pulling away over the final seven minutes of the first half and led 46-27 at the break. The Falcons pressed and trapped Lawrence, but the Vikings broke the pressure for easy baskets or open 3-pointers.

Lawrence shot 53.8 percent from the floor, including 44.8 percent from 3-point range. The Vikings were 35 of 65 from the field, including 13 of 29 from beyond the arc.

Lawrence piled up 21 assists, including eight from senior point guard Jamie DeMatthew, and had only 13 turnovers against the pressure.

Lawrence led by as many as 44 points on several occasions in the second half.

The Vikings are now off for the holidays and do not return to action until Jan. 12 when they host Beloit College.
