APPLETON, Wis. -- John Dekker and Dustin Lee scored 26 points apiece, and Dekker topped the 1,000-point plateau as the Lawrence University men's basketball team beat Carroll University 84-75 in a Midwest Conference game Saturday at Alexander Gymnasium.
Dekker, who hit 9 of 16 shots from the floor, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range, is the 20th player in Lawrence history to score 1,000 points and now has 1,003 for his career.
Lee set a career high, topping his previous best of 18 points against Monmouth College earlier this month. Lee hit 7 of 10 shots from the field, including 5 of 7 from beyond the arc.
Erik Borresen added a double-double with 15 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for the Vikings (8-9, 5-5 MWC).
Paul Grosshuesch also had a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds to pace Carroll (11-7, 6-5). All-America guard John Hoch also had 21 points for the Pioneers, and Kyle Jones added 14 points.
The game was tight until Lawrence broke things open early in the second half. The Vikings led 37-35 and scored the game's next eight points, with Dekker hitting a pair of 3-pointers, to take a 45-35 lead with 16:58 left.
Carroll trimmed the margin back to seven, but Lawrence went on a 12-2 run to take a 59-42 lead with 11:37 left. Lee hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points in that stretch.
Carroll chipped away at the lead and got the advantage down to nine points, but Lawrence went 13-for-16 from the foul line in the final 4:08 to seal the win.
The Vikings went 22-for-28 from the foul line for the game.
Lawrence returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts 12th-ranked St. Norbert College.
