DE PERE, Wis. -- One streak ended Tuesday night and another kept rolling along.
The Lawrence University men's basketball team snapped No. 11 St. Norbert College's 15-game winning streak with a 75-52 victory at Schuldes Sports Center.
The Vikings kept alive their win streak against the Green Knights, which stands at nine straight and stretches back to the 2004-05 season. It was Lawrence's biggest margin of victory in the series since the game that started this current streak, a 72-48 win over the Green Knights on Feb. 12, 2005.
Ryan Kroeger led four Lawrence (12-6, 8-3 MWC) players in double figures with 16 points. Jayce Apelgren added 14 points for the Vikings, Doug Kadison had 11, and John Dekker had 10.
Mike Dowden led St. Norbert (16-2, 10-1) with 14 points.
The game was tight throughout the first half, and St. Norbert scored five straight points to trim Lawrence's lead to 23-21 with 6:19 left. Dekker countered by burying a 3-pointer, and Lawrence hit its next five shots from the floor to take a 38-28 lead at the break.
The Vikings opened the second half with a 12-4 run, capped by Kroeger's 3-pointer, to lead 50-32 with 14-11 left. Lawrence kept the Green Knights at arm's length for the rest of the contest as St. Norbert got no closer than 14 points the rest of the way.
Hot shooting propelled Lawrence to the victory, with the Vikings hitting 58.7 percent (27-46) from the floor, including 50 percent (9-18) from beyond the arc. Lawrence's defense held St. Norbert to only 31.1 percent (19-61) shooting from the floor.
Lawrence, which is 3-0 against ranked opponents this season, goes on the road this weekend when it travels to Illinois College and Knox College.
