Vikings fall to Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- The 19th-ranked Lawrence University men's basketball team had a frigid shooting night, and Marian University took advantage of that for an 87-73 nonconference victory.

The Vikings (2-2) hit on only 40.3 percent (27-67) of their shots from the floor, including 6 of 24 (25 percent) from 3-point range. The Vikings also connected on only 13 of 21 (61 percent) from the foul line.

Logan Rankin put together a double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Sabres (3-1), who shot 54.7 percent from the floor. Kevin Hudak added 21 points and Justin Bestor had 15.

Ryan Kroeger paced Lawrence with 22 points, and John Dekker had 14. Dustin Lee chipped in with 10 points, and Chris Page had nine points and 11 rebounds.

The Sabres led by six at the half and pulled away midway through the second half. Marian led 51-44, and the Sabres went on a 12-4 run to grab a 63-48 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining.

Lawrence never got closer than 11 points after that.

The Vikings return home to face UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday.
