Lawrence jumps on Lake Forest early and rolls to win

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team got off to a fast start on Saturday and never looked back in an 88-55 Midwest Conference rout of Lake Forest College.

Ryan Kroeger scored 17 points to lead the Vikings (9-4, 5-1 MWC), who saw all five starters score in double figures. Jayce Apelgren had 16 points, Chris Page had 11, John Dekker added 13, and Doug Kadison had 12 for Lawrence.

Travis Clark paced Lake Forest (3-10, 2-4) with 16 points.

The game was tied 10-10 less than five minutes into the contest when the Vikings started to pull away. Lawrence went on a 22-2 run over the next 10 minutes and led 32-12 with 5:29 left in the first half. Page scored seven points during that run, and Kroeger and Dustin Lee added six points apiece.

Lawrence led 45-23 at the half, and Lake Forest opened the second half with a pair of baskets from Clark to trim the margin to 45-27. That's as close as the Foresters would get.

The Vikings responded with a 25-3 run over the next seven-plus minutes to put the game away. Lawrence would go on to lead by as many as 46 points.

The Vikings return home on Friday to face Grinnell College.
