APPLETON, Wis. -- The Carroll University men's basketball team hit 14 of 23 shots from 3-point range on Wednesday and used that hot shooting to roll to an 88-64 Midwest Conference win over Lawrence at Alexander Gymnasium.
John Hoch paced Carroll (7-3, 3-0 MWC) and all scorers with 27 points. He hit 10 of 14 shots from the floor, including 4 of 4 from 3-point range. Nathan Zimmerman added 16 points and was 6 of 7 from the floor, including 4 of 4 on 3-pointers.
Chris Page led Lawrence (6-4, 2-1) with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Doug Kadison and John Dekker added 11 points apiece. Lawrence had a frigid shooting night, hitting on only 4 of 20 shots from beyond the arc. The Vikings also made only 4 of 11 shots from the foul line.
The Pioneers hit 9 of 13 from 3-point range in the first half and led by as many as 13 points before the break. Carroll started the second half on a 14-6 run to take a 56-37 lead with 15:19 remaining.
Carroll gradually built that advantage to 68-44 on Hoch's layup with 11:31 left in the game. Lawrence never made a run at the Pioneers and got no closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
Lawrence returns to action next Tuesday when it travels to Beloit College.
