APPLETON, Wis. -- The 19th-ranked Lawrence University men's basketball team bolted to a double-digit lead early and rolled to a 77-64 nonconference win over Coe College on Friday at Alexander Gymnasium.
John Dekker scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds to pace Lawrence (1-1). Doug Kadison added 11 points and Dustin Lee had 10 for the Vikings. Kevin Dux led Coe (1-1) with 11 points, and Alex Tatman and Caleb Luckow had 10 points apiece.
Lawrence led 8-6 with 16:21 left in the opening half when the Vikings went on a 13-2 run to take control. Dekker buried a pair of 3-pointers and had a layup in that stretch for eight of his 15 points.
Coe cut the lead to 10 but the Kohawks never got any closer. Lawrence led by as many as 18 points in the first half and took a 42-27 lead into the break.
Lawrence opened the second half with a 9-4 run to grab a 54-31 lead on Jayce Apelgren's layup with 15:51 left in the contest. Coe never got closer than the final margin.
The Vikings take on another Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team on Saturday when they face Cornell College. Cornell defeated Ripon 81-68 at Alexander Gym on Friday evening.
