Lawrence routs Caltech

PASADENA, Calif. -- Jon Mays scored a career-high 10 points, and the Lawrence University men's basketball team routed the California Institute of Technology 96-55 in a nonconference game on Wednesday night.

Mays, whose previous career high was three points, was one of four Lawrence players in double figures. John Dekker, Ryan Kroeger, and Jayce Apelgren added 13 points apiece for the Vikings. Dekker also pulled down a team-high six rebounds, had a career-best seven steals, and handed out four assists.

Lawrence (6-2) got off to a slow start and Caltech (0-7) actually led 17-16 midway through the first half. The Vikings then scored the next 10 points and were on their way. Lawrence finished the half by outscoring the Beavers 46-14 and led 60-31 at the break.

Mays was 5-for-5 from the floor.

Ryan Elmquist paced the Beavers with 19 points, and Travis Haussler added 15.

Fifteen players scored for Lawrence, with freshmen David Bremner and T.J. Crowns both picking up their first career points.

Lawrence returns to action on Friday when it travels to Cal Lutheran.
