Big second half leads Cal Lutheran past Lawrence

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Cal Lutheran used a 13-1 run midway through the second half to pull away for an 85-65 nonconference win over Lawrence University on Friday night.

Andy Meier had a double-double with 28 points and 12 rebounds to pace Cal Lutheran (5-1). Ryan Kroeger led Lawrence (6-3) with 23 points.

The Vikings led by as many as eight points in the first half and held a 37-32 lead at the break. The Kingsmen scored the first 14 points of the second half to take a 46-37 lead.

Cal Lutheran built the lead to 14 points at 53-39 before the Vikings bounced back. Kroeger and John Dekker scored five points apiece, and the Vikings went on a 12-0 run to slash the lead to 53-51 with 10:40 remaining in the contest.

The Kingsmen then responded with a 13-1 run of their own to pull away for good. Cal Lutheran was helped by a pair of technical fouls on Lawrence during that stretch. Lawrence also a technical foul earlier in the second half.

Lawrence never got closer than 12 points after that.

The Vikings take a break for the holidays and don't return to action until facing Carroll University on Jan. 7.
