Vikings shut down Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team limited Beloit College to only 22.8 percent shooting from the floor and rolled to a 79-41 Midwest Conference win over the Bucs on Tuesday at Flood Arena.

Lawrence (7-4, 3-1 MWC) got 17 points from Ryan Kroeger, who led three Vikings in double figures. John Dekker posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Page pulled down a career-high 12 boards for the Vikings.

Patrick Kenny paced Beloit (3-9, 1-4) with 12 points.

Lawrence turned in one of its best defensive efforts of the season and led 39-18 at the break. The Vikings held Beloit's starters to 5-for-34 shooting from the floor.

The Vikings pulled away late in the first half. Lawrence led 18-13 when Dustin Lee hit a 3-pointer for the Vikings to start a 16-2 run that put Lawrence up 34-15 with less than three minutes left in the opening half.

Kroeger had six points during that outburst, and Doug Kadison added a 3-pointer.

The Vikings then opened the second half by scoring seven consecutive points, including five by Dekker, to grab a 46-18 lead.

Beloit never got closer than 20 points, and Lawrence would lead by as many as 40 late in the contest.
