GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men's basketball team went on a 16-0 run over the final 6:07 of the first half Monday to pull away for an 87-62 exhibition win over Lawrence University.
Sophomore John Dekker scored a team-high 10 points for the Vikings, and Andy Hurley added nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Rahmon Fletcher led the Phoenix and all scorers with 20 points, and Randy Berry had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Playing in front of a crowd of 2,033 at the Resch Center, the Vikings hung with the Phoenix for the first 14 minutes of the contest. Lawrence trailed 9-4 early before Dekker hit a 3-pointer to spark a 10-0 Vikings run. Hurley added a pair of baskets, and Ryan Wendel's putback gave Lawrence a 14-9 lead with 11:27 left in the opening half.
Green Bay tied the game at 14-14 before Wendel buried a 3-pointer with 10:28 left. The Phoenix scored the next six points, but Dekker hit another 3-pointer to tie the game at 20-20. Green Bay then pulled out to a 26-21 lead before Tommy Schmidt converted a pair of free throws with 6:33 left to trim the margin to 26-23.
Fletcher and Berry scored four points apiece in the next 6:07, as the Phoenix pulled away. Green Bay led 42-23 at the half, and Lawrence never got closer than 16 points in the second half.
Lawrence, playing its third exhibition game against a Division I opponent in the last four seasons, opens the regular season at Dominican (Ill.) on Nov. 16.
