APPLETON, Wis. -- The No. 23 Lawrence University men's basketball team sprinted away from Monmouth College late in the first half Friday night at Alexander Gymnasium and went on to post a 105-68 Midwest Conference victory.
Ryan Kroeger and Chris Page scored 16 points apiece to lead four Lawrence players in double figures. Ben Rosenblatt and Tommy Schmidt added 10 points apiece for the first-place Vikings (15-2, 10-1 MWC). Joe Terwelp paced Monmouth (4-13, 4-7) with 15 points.
All 18 players saw action for Lawrence and 15 scored at least two points.
The game was tight over the opening 13 minutes, but Lawrence put on a scoring surge late in the first half. The Vikings led 31-29 with 7:04 to play and then outscored the Scots 18-2 to finish the half. Page had five points in that run, and Andy Hurley and John Dekker added three points apiece.
During the same stretch, the Scots connected on only one of five shots and committed eight turnovers.
The Vikings basically put the game away early in the second half. Doug Kadison hit a 3-pointer to open the second half, and that sparked a 21-5 scoring run to give Lawrence a 70-36 lead with 15:32 remaining. Lawrence hit seven of 10 shots from the floor during that stretch, with Page scoring seven points during that run.
Page, a junior post player, was 5-for-5 from the field, including hitting on all three of his 3-point attempts. Page entered the game 2-for-14 on 3-point attempts for the season.
Lawrence would go on to lead by as many as 39 points.
The Vikings return to action at home Saturday when they host Lake Forest College.
