Second-half run helps Vikings pull away from Lake Forest

APPLETON, Wis. -- The No. 23 Lawrence University men's basketball team went on a 10-0 run midway through the second half and pulled away from Lake Forest College for an 84-69 Midwest Conference win Saturday at Alexander Gymnasium.

Chris Page scored 18 points to pace four Lawrence players in double figures. Ryan Kroeger added 13 points, and Ben Rosenblatt and Doug Kadison had 10 points apiece. Hoyt Rees led Lake Forest (10-9, 6-6 MWC) with 21 points, and Laird Walker added 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Lake Forest was hot in the first half, hitting 6 of 11 3-pointers, and led 38-36 at the half.

Lawrence (16-2, 11-1) led 50-47 when Page started the decisive run with a pair of free throws with 12:52 left. Kroeger then got a fastbreak layup, and Tommy Schmidt followed with a 3-pointer. Kroeger then picked the pocket of Rees and hit a short jumper. Page finished the run with a free throw with 8:54 left, and Lawrence led 60-47.

The Vikings after an exchange of free throws, the Vikings went on a 7-0 run. Ryan Wendel got a layup, and John Dekker followed with a 3-pointer and a layup to put the Vikings up 69-49 with 5:33 left.

The 20-point margin was Lawrence's largest lead of the game, and Lake Forest didn't get closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

Lawrence returns to action Wednesday when it travels to rival Ripon College.
