Kroeger, Vikings shoot down Johnson and Wales

MIAMI, Fla. -- Ryan Kroeger scored a game-high 18 points, and the Lawrence University men's basketball team beat Johnson and Wales University 69-57 in a nonconference game on Tuesday.

Kroeger, a junior guard, hit 6 of 10 shots from the floor, including 2 of 4 from beyond the 3-point line. He also pulled down seven rebounds.

John Dekker added 13 points and made three 3-pointers for the second consecutive night for Lawrence (6-1). Ben Rosenblatt chipped in with 10 points, and Andy Hurley added eight points and a game-high eight rebounds. Rosenblatt was perfect from the floor, hitting 3 of 3 shots, including 2-for-2 on 3-pointers, and 2-for-2 from the foul line.

Alex Blue led Johnson and Wales (4-10), a NAIA Division II school, with 12 points.

The Vikings also got a big contribution from the bench, with Tommy Schmidt scoring seven straight points for the Vikings during one second-half run. Schmidt also pulled down five rebounds.

Lawrence controlled the game throughout, but Johnson and Wales did get as close as three points in the closing minutes. Kroeger and Rosenblatt hit back-to-back 3-pointers to help Lawrence seal the victory.

The Vikings finished 8-for-16 from beyond the arc for the game and went 26-for-50 overall.

Lawrence returns to action on Jan. 12 when it finally plays its first home game of the season with a Midwest Conference contest against Ripon College.
