Late run helps Lawrence down Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team used a late scoring run to secure an 84-77 Midwest Conference victory Friday at Illinois College's Sherman Gymnasium.

Ryan Kroeger scored 18 points to lead four Lawrence (12-1, 7-0 MWC) players in double figures. Doug Kadison added 15 points, Ben Rosenblatt had 14, and Andy Hurley chipped in with 13 points. Joe Womble led Illinois College (7-7, 3-4) with 21 points.

In a game that featured 11 ties, Lawrence trailed 63-56 with 7:44 left when the Vikings rallied. Rosenblatt hit a 3-pointer, and then Kadison converted a three-point play and followed that with a layup to put Lawrence up 64-63 with 6:34 left.

The game's last tie came at 68-68 with 4:48 left when the Vikings pulled away for good. Hurley started a 9-0 run with a pair of free throws, and Kroeger added a free throw before hitting back-to-back 3-pointers. Those big treys gave Lawrence a 77-68 lead with 1:44 remaining.

David Heneisen answered with a three-point play for the Blueboys, but Kadison drilled a 3-pointer to seal the win with 56 seconds left.

Lawrence wraps up its weekend road trip at Grinnell College on Saturday afternoon.
