APPLETON, Wis. -- Marc Howe got his second career hat trick to lead the Lawrence University hockey team to an 8-1 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association win over Northland College Saturday at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
Howe scored the game's first two goals and then got the hat trick with a goal late in the second period. He also added a pair of assists and had five points on the day.
Evan Johnson stopped 24 of 25 shots to pick up the victory for Lawrence (6-1-0, 5-0-0 MCHA). The Vikings fired 61 shots and Kyle Finch made 53 saves for Northland (0-7-0, 0-6-0).
Howe scored at 11:42 and 12:30 of the first to stake Lawrence to a 2-0 lead after the first period. Ben DiMarco made it 3-0 with a goal just 27 seconds into the second period.
The Lumberjacks cut the lead to 3-1 on Colin McIntosh's goal midway through the second period. Howe then picked up the hat trick when he scored at 15:16 to put the Vikings up 4-1.
Lawrence sealed the victory early in the second period with four goals in the first 9:53. Jon Bellotti scored a pair of goals in the third, and Gustaf Ahlberg and DiMarco also picked up goals in the final period.
The Vikings went 2-for-7 on the power play while stopping the Lumberjacks on all five of their chances on the man-advantage.
