Late goal lifts MSOE past Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. -- Bradley Tierney's goal with 1:29 left in the game lifted the Milwaukee School of Engineering to a 3-2 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Lawrence University Saturday night at the Appleton Family Ice Center.

Tierney skated out from the corner, circled behind the Lawrence net and flipped a backhander past goaltender Evan Johnson. Lawrence pulled Johnson for the final 1:06 but could not get the equalizer.

Conner Toomey made 24 saves to earn the victory for MSOE (10-8-1, 9-5-0 MCHA). Johnson made 28 saves for the Vikings (7-10-1, 6-6-1).

Lawrence went into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead after Matt Hughes scored at the 14:19 mark of the opening period.

MSOE tied it on Jordan Keizer's short-handed goal at the 15:40 mark of the second. Lawrence took the lead back just 15 seconds later when Brad Scurfield scored on the power play.

The Raiders tied it at 2-2 when Nick Gorup scored with just 22 seconds left in the second period with MSOE on a two-man advantage.

Lawrence returns to action next weekend when it travels to Northland College for a two-game series.
