MSOE shuts out Vikings

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The Milwaukee School of Engineering posted a 5-0 shutout against Lawrence University in a Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association game Friday night at the Kern Center.

MSOE scored three power-play goals and Michael Soik had a pair of scores for the Raiders (9-8-1, 8-5-0 MCHA). Lawrence (7-9-1, 6-5-1) lost despite enjoying a 33-31 advantage in shots on goal.

Conner Toomey made 33 saves to pick up the win. Freshman goaltender Michael Baldino made his first collegiate start for Lawrence and stopped 26 shots.

MSOE's first three goals came on the power play. Nick Gorup socred at 7:40 of the first, and Michael Soik made it 2-0 with a goal 1:16 later. The Raiders made it 3-0 with another power-play goal from Soik at 8:39 of the second.

The Raiders finished 3-for-10 on the power play. Lawrence went 0-for-6 on the man-advantage.

This was Lawrence's first shutout loss since a 2-0 defeat against Marian on Jan. 23, 2009.

The Vikings take on MSOE at home Saturday night to wrap up the series.
