APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University's Marc Howe scored the game-winning goal in overtime and broke the school's career scoring record in the process in a 4-3 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Finlandia University on Saturday.
Howe, a senior forward, scored two goals in the game and now has 104 points for his career. He broke the record of 103 set by Ryan Blick in 2005 and tied by Nick Jennette in 2009. Howe also holds the career goals record at 59.
Finlandia (3-10-2, 2-7-1 MCHA) jumped on top just 2:02 into the game on Derek Rodgers' power-play goal.
Lawrence (7-5-1, 6-1-1) then took the lead with a pair of goals in a span of 1:06 later in the first period. Gustav Ahlberg scored at the 8:48 mark to tie the game at 1-1, and Howe scored at 9:54 to put the Vikings up 2-1.
Finlandia tied the game at 2-2 on Eric Schultz's goal with just 30 seconds left in the opening period. Chris Hendrickson then scored for the Lions on the power play just 2:09 into the second period to give Finlandia a 3-2 edge.
Matt Hughes tied the game for Lawrence with a goal with just 25 seconds left in the second period. The score stayed at 3-3 until Howe's unassisted goal with 1:19 left in overtime.
Evan Johnson made 16 saves to pick up the win for Lawrence. Jason Barden came off the bench in the middle of the first period and made 37 saves for Finlandia.
Lawrence enjoyed a 42-19 edge in shots on goal.
The Vikings return to action on Tuesday when they host Marian University.
